A trio of mega diving watches that can withstand extreme depths
Among Rolex's collection of timepieces , some of their most famous and popular are their diving watches.
But aside from the famed Rolex Submariner, the brand also offers other
professional diver's watches that boast extreme water resistance and are
able to plunge to tremendous depths.
Here we take a look at the three of the most current and technically
advanced Rolex deep dive watches to accompany you on your next
underwater exploration adventure.
1. Sea-Dweller 4000

Rolex Sea-Dweller 4000 ref. 116600
Introduced in 2014, the Rolex Sea-Dweller 4000 is the brand's modern
interpretation of their legendary professional diver's watch that was
born due to a collaboration with COMEX. Similar to the stainless steel Submariner, the Oyster case and Oyster bracelet of the Sea-Dweller is constructed from 904L stainless steel with the case measuring 40mm.

However, the Sea-Dweller is capable of reaching 4,000 feet (1,220
meters) deep thanks in part to the Rolex-invented Helium Escape Valve
(HEV) — a watch mechanism that offsets the differences between internal
and external pressure.
For further robustness, the diver's bezel of the Sea-Dweller 4000 is
equipped with a Cerachrom ceramic bezel insert that is resistant to
scratching and fading.
An interesting design detail to note is that although the Sea-Dweller
4000 features a date function, the date window is not magnified by a
Cyclops lens as on other Rolex date watches.
2. Sea-Dweller Deepsea

Rolex Sea-Dweller Deepsea ref. 116660
The Rolex Deepsea made a big splash with its release in 2009. Featuring
an oversized 44mm case, titanium caseback, and 5mm thick domed sapphire
crystal, the Deepsea is a tough watch built for serious diving
enthusiasts.
The watch is outfitted with the Triplock screw-down crown, Ringlock
System, and Helium Escape Valve to ensure the Rolex's waterproofness to
an insane 12,800 feet (3,900 meters) deep.

Rounding out the practicality of a diving instrument is the
unidirectional rotating Cerachrom ceramic bezel, highly legible
Chromalight display that emits a clear blue hue in the darkness for up
to eight hours, and the Glidelock System to easily extend the Oyster
bracelet to wear over a diving suit.
3. Sea-Dweller Deepsea D-Blue Dial

Rolex Sea-Dweller D-Blue Dial ref. 116660
The Sea-Dweller Deepsea D-Blue Dial is essentially the same watch as the Sea-Dweller Deepsea except for its very distinct dial.
The Deepsea D-Blue Dial was created in 2014 in honor of James Cameron's
2012 historic dive in the Deepsea Challenger submersible, which dove
35,787 feet down the Mariana Trench.
The dial on this special edition Deepsea features a blue to black
gradient illustrating the change of colors when a diver plunges deeper
underwater. Furthermore, the bright green color of the “DEEPSEA” label on the dial is a nod to the color of the Deepsea Challenger vessel.
